Together with very creative designers, Ruta Goussard & her partner plus a client with a passion for the outdoors with interests in using natural products & the foresight to push the boundaries, we managed to produce some exquisite furniture that will last a life-time. The 5 storey building which also includes an auditorium, is based in the ever developing Woodstock precinct. One is in awe of the indoor triple-volume hanging gardens, suspended walk-ways & the use of natural light, all which transport you to place that feels more like an out-door habitat rather than an inner-city workspace. Imported Birch plywood work surfaces & long, low storage units were sealed with a monocoat finish & combined with top quality red Formica surfaces & light-weight frames. All cabling was housed within the cabinetry & gave a neat, uncluttered appearance. This created a delicate, unfussy and environmentally friend open-plan space softened by felt screens that, with the featured red piping, made them look like vertical ‘cushions’. This was a fun and challenging project that we are exceptionally proud of.
View ProjectThe co-working space trend has sprung up in South Africa after the worldwide paradigm shift took place in the way business could operate in the digital age. This exciting reality has allowed office furniture companies like us and designers to rethink the way we could create office spaces to meet with these new demands from clients. We have felt honoured to be part of this movement right from the embryo stages and have completed many projects in this area. A highlight has been our inclusion in an accelerator program project together with overseas designers and a local decorator to create a Fintech co-working space for a large global bank. The Cape Town arm is one of the selected few they are funding around the world. An old, edgy, semi industrial space with existing cemented floors has been converted into a beautiful, naturally lit, mono-tone office with 360 views of the city. Glassed in meeting rooms, pause areas and an auditorium are surrounded by state-of-the-art birch-plywood & Formica desks supported by uniquely designed metal frames. These are intermixed with solid wood and splay-legged collaborative working tables & the inclusion of an eclectic use of colourful, imported chairs. Bookshelves with diagonal detail created natural divisions added to the juxtaposed mix of a fun, functional and creative furniture. The project has been a huge success, admired globally and was visited by Megan Markle recently.
View ProjectCoronation Asset Managers supported the creation of this first independent black-owned investment administration company & subsequently successfully migrated their unit trust client administration to Intembeko. Our brief was very specific – they needed to fit out their new office space at minimal cost but with maximum impact. The furniture should be practical, space effective, reflect professionalism & incorporate their colours of copper, black & grey but the breakaway areas needed to be bright, fresh & inspiring with a completely different feel from the corporate main office. We started with a blank canvas but with limited space & one that we needed to fill to absolute capacity to accommodate future staff growth. To do this we chose pale colours for the desks & added white loop-shaped legs to give an open, airy feel to the office. Branding was very important, using neutral tones of grey & black but with a strong emphasis on their corporate colour to bring in warmth & richness. We achieved this by incorporating elements of copper into the Reception counter, following through into the meeting rooms with subtle wallpaper & décor items & finally into part of the breakaway area with a bold African sunset wallpaper complemented by copper lights & a wall clock. The office space is flanked by glass fronted meeting rooms where mahogany furniture is used to create a feeling of warmth & richness. Moving through the corporate office, the space then transforms into a wonderful social area with the cafeteria in white & chrome with some aqua chairs that then follows through into the breakaway area with its folding glass panels & eclectic seating. The planning & implementation schedule worked perfectly & the installation well exceeded Intembeko's expectations.
View Project“Keep it simple” was the brief from the client. One does not have to spend large amounts of money to design the interiors & supply new office furniture to create a new space. The most important factor is clever space- planning & the conversion of an uninteresting space into an inviting office that is functional & flows. Apart from the extensive layout and drywalling design, the requirements were to provide as much desk space as possible for dual monitor usage. Personal storage was placed to one side in the form of simple white lockers instead of a below-workstation pedestal that would take up leg room. The addition of light-weight screens gave the staff their privacy and blocked out noise. The pause area and canteen allowed for some quiet time during the day. The use of wallpapers and funky canteen chairs brightened up the space, together with the geometrically designed fabrics on the office and boardroom chairs. The client was incredibly pleased with the outcome and were grateful that we provided them with lovely workspace that did not come with excessive costs.
